Here is our testimony on Guarana. I hope as parents read it they realize that Ritalin doesn't always make a child feel better, It only makes them act better which makes us feel better.
I have an 11 year old son. At age 8 he was diagnosed with ADD. He was placed on Ritalin for almost 4 years. My son had skinny arms and legs, a pale face with dark circles under his eyes. He didn't eat very much, he wasn't hungry. He recently became more emotionally upset and frustrated with himself. The doctor wanted to increase his dosage of 30 mg daily. I was already having concerns about the long term use of Ritalin. I did not want my son to struggle, but did not want to pump any more Ritalin into him.
I had tried other herbal alternatives. Nothing worked. Then an Herbalife consultant told me about Guarana. We were about to start school and wasn't sure if this was a good time. I started giving him 1 guarana in the morning with his Ritalin. I told him it was a vitamin. I didn't want him to psychologically convince himself it made him feel better. The first day we saw a big difference in his moods. I slowly decreased the Ritalin in 5 mg increments. My son now takes 2 guarana daily and is completely off the Ritalin. I tried an off brand of guarana but it had several other things in with it. My son took 1 and didn't want to take it again. He asked if he could take the Herbalife brand of vitamin. I was convinced that Herbalife's NRG was some product. My son has been Ritalin free for 1 1/2 months now.
He is so happy lately. His appetite has increased no more sleepless nights which means no more dark circles and no more headaches every morning. The emotional outbursts are gone. I monitored him while I weaned him off the Ritalin. Fifteen minutes after taking a Ritalin, he had tingling in his legs and arms. His pupils were large and he could feel the medicine going through him. After a Guarana, he did not feel funny in the head, as he put it. He did say he felt more focused. He asked me if he could take the vitamin instead of the Ritalin. I then told him that the vitamin was not a vitamin but an herb that stimulates the central nervous system in the same way Ritalin did, without the side effects. My son could not handle the stress of the achievement tests in school. He recently spent a week taking an achievement test in school without the outbursts and tears. My son has his life back. He is enjoying being a kid.

My 10 year old son Zac has had several different diagnosis' in his young life. Frankly, I couldn’t bear to hear another one. We (very reluctantly) put him on methylphenidate when he was 7. He had horrible reactions. Weight-loss, insomnia, rebound effects and facial tics. That was substituted for Cylert (pemoline), more of the same. We waited a year, and during therapy, non-generic Ritalin was suggested. (If I only knew then what I know now!) We agreed to re-try the name-brand and he ended up staying on it for 2 years. The effects weren't as awful, but still the insomnia, decreased appetite and especially the facial tics. They got real bad.
It has been a non-stop, ongoing heartache trying to help this child. We have never been able to enjoy him for just being who he is..our boy. We've been so wrapped up in "finding answers", we've missed the "wonder years". That is so sad to me. Well, last summer the Ritalin stopped
working (All it did was give us 2 hours of reduced chaos 3x per day anyway) Then came the turning point...... Lithium. It all stopped for me right there. We had hit bottom. We had a beautiful 10 year old boy who supposedly was Autistic, Epileptic, ADHD, OCD, with Tourette's. It looked like we were facing a life of one medication after the next, with the doctors doing nothing but prescribing new drugs.
Well, in the meantime, my sister happened to have been on the Herbalife products for 4 months and had lost 40 pounds. Myself, having had given up on weight-loss long ago (figuring after everything I'd tried and failed at, it was my destiny to be obese) had no intention of listening to her rave about yet another "miracle weight-loss plan". So, my mother gets in my van one day and says HERE! WE'RE LISTENING TO THIS! She pops in a tape with all these child testimonies about NRG. I was negative about the products but terrified of Lithium. After a few more tapes, negative won out. We did NRG for 6 weeks with no improvement. I never felt more discouraged. From there I went to work... I pretty much lived at the library and can now buy stock in Barnes & Noble, but I read everything I could get my hands on about herbs and alternative methods of treatment. I made a list of symptoms that I wanted to improve with Zac, then went after the herbs that dealt with those issues. I saw where I could find those specific herbs in the Herbalife products and started a plan of action. I put him on the 1,2,3. (1 tablespoon of F1 mixed with 2ozs aloe/6ozs milk or juice) 1 of the F2 and 2 of the F3 and 1 Schizandra, once a day at breakfast.
I gave that a month, while weaning him off Ritalin (5 mgs reduced each week), I saw a slight improvement. The second month it wowed me. We did the same plan but he was now free of the Ritalin. He slept like a baby. The dark circles that were always a part of his face were visibly lighter. He was eating like a teenager. These things were huge to us. It was great. 3rd month we added Tang Kuei, Tics decreased dramatically, he had gained 9 pounds.(still 10 underweight). 4th month we introduced herbalifeline for the Omega 3's and Rose Ox.
His teacher and principal were amazed at the improvement. The attention and focus was right on track and he was making social strides every day. He is now able to be involved in team sports and absolutely loves it! As I write this he is at a sleepover.(An unheard of thing in the past) He went with his pack on a 5 day cub scout camping trip alone!) and took his herbs with him (proudly!) I made the "shake bar" recipe so he didn't have to deal with mixing his shakes. He has now caught up the 20 pounds that he was lacking and has shot up 3 inches. (Ritalin stunts growth)
He has not "ticked" in over 2 months and for all intents and purposes is enjoying a normal healthy childhood. The biggest thing I think is that I've been reacquainted with my boy. I forgot what his true personality was. The cute little things about him that were masked by drugs. Now I'm reminded of the little boy before medication. The little boy who was lost, that Herbalife helped me find again. I will always and forever be eternally grateful for these products. I thank God every day for this. I know Zac does too. The good things don’t stop there either. I have since lost 54 of the impossible pounds that I thought would torture me forever. I need to be rid of 40 more, but I know I'm doing it this time. I'm looking forward to every new day of my Herbalife life. Zac is too.
He cant wait till he's old enough to become a distributor himself. He actually wrote up his own flyers on the computer. It says Herbalife has changed my life, it can change yours too. You only have one chance so protect it! I thought those were powerful words for a 10 year old. This is not just a weight loss program... It goes WAY deeper than that. We're proof positive of that! Myself and all of the wonderful testimonies coming through this list. What a blessing!!
